This position is responsible for DistGIS system configuration and technical support and the associated Distribution Technology Applications/Programs/Systems implemented at Gulf Power Company. This position is also responsible for interpreting, verifying and inputting data into corporate geographical information systems (GIS), computer aided design systems (CAD), CymeDIST and other load management (LM) systems. Interaction with Power Delivery engineering staff regarding these applications is also required. The GIS Analyst position requires a high degree of attention to GIS data accuracy due to its potential safety impact to daily operations of the distribution system. GIS data is the foundation for day to day operations between the DCC Operators, Engineering and Line Construction teams.
JOB REQUIREMENTS (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills)
A proven record of safety and be recognized as consistently modeling safe behaviors in meeting Target Zero.
A Bachelor’s degree in GIS or other applicable science/engineering degree is required.
A minimum of 2 years professional GIS experience is required. A GIS Certification is a plus.
Communication and interpersonal skills necessary to interact with other Power Delivery and Southern Company employees in obtaining and exchanging data, training, education, and solving problems related to the Company’s electrical system.
Demonstrated extensive knowledge of GIS systems, CAD systems, GPS equipment, and geodetic projection systems. Knowledge of CymeDIST a plus.
Basic knowledge of electricity and three-phase power to effectively produce an accurate electrical representation of the Company's Distribution electrical equipment.
Basic knowledge of the operation and construction of Gulf Power Company's electrical Distribution system in order to interact with Engineering and Planning personnel.
Analytical and interpretive skills to resolve GIS / CAD data discrepancies.
Experience with Oracle (SQL), ArcView, ArcINFO, ArcGIS, ArcIMS, and ArcSDE. Experience with, VB/VBA, AutoCAD and/or electric utility systems are a plus.
Strong communication skills, needed to interact with various levels of users throughout the distribution side of the company, IT, and with counterparts of this position at Gulf Power and at the system level.
Data analyst activities, in an ESRI software environment, such as datadevelopment, data mining, map production, QA/QC, metadata production, application development, and user support.
Maintain the company specific configuration of DistGIS applications/programs/systems and ensure they are operational when used which can be 24/7 for specific applications. This includes first line support to the DCC, as well as users in the Districts, and requires on-call availability should a system go down.
Assist in managing the GIS budget and the continued development of the GIS strategy, the evaluation of its business value, development of business cases, make decisions that will minimize GIS costs while maximizing GIS value.
Provide data query and analysis capabilities necessary to access and manipulate data in order to meet our business objectives and to serve our customers’ needs.
Assist in creating, maintaining, and validating the accuracy of reports from these systems to ensure accuracy.
Develop field inspection and data collection processes to maintain the distribution electrical model accuracy.
Provide consultation and assistance to the Southern Dist-GIS group by acting as liaison for Gulf Powers GIS team to ensure continuity, consistency, and standard data practices.
Manage potential impacts to other systems and departments regarding GIS / CAD / database updates.
Provide GIS expertise and serve as a technical resource for the Distribution Data, interface with the system drawing tool, Web Viewer, and other ESRI products as required by the Power Delivery business unit.
Providing assistance during storm restoration is a condition of employment.

The successful candidate must have a valid driver’s license; position requires the use of a personal vehicle for fieldwork and travel with mileage reimbursement. This position requires walking through rough and uneven terrain. The position requires the individual to be available for emergency assistance and/or to assist with service restoration activities after hours, nights, weekends and holidays. Some overnight travel may be required, must be available to provide Company wide support while working alone and driving to remote locations.
Must be willing to relocate to the Pensacola FL area. Relocation assistance is available.
