Job Summary

The Safety & Heath Consultant/Specialist position serves as the technical and regulatory resource for Georgia Power's Transmission Safety & Training Organization. The Consultant /Specialist will be responsible for learning/understand transmission work methods and monitoring state and federal regulatory processes to identify and respond to new or revised regulatory actions affecting the electric utility industry. The Consultant/Specialist shall provide oversight for Georgia Power's Transmission guidelines, bulletins, policies, and procedures related to employee safety and compliance.

A relocation package will be offered should the successful candidate need to move to the Metro Atlanta area. The Company's Relocation criteria must be met for this benefit to be offered to the successful candidate.

Travel on behalf of Georgia Power, Southern System, or Electric Utility Industry Committee efforts will be required. This may include overnight stay(s).

Job Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree is desired, engineering or safety related field preferred.

  • PE, CSP, and/or CIH certification is a plus.

Experience Requirements

  • Proven safety leadership experience is desired.

  • Minimum five years of Transmission experience is desired.

  • Affiliations with ASSE, ASTM, SEE, and IEEE are a plus.

  • Experience developing, editing, and/or implementing operational bulletins, alerts, or policies are a plus.

  • Experience serving in a Leadership role (e.g. Company or Electric Utility Industry committee work, community involvement, etc).

  • Collaborative committee experience with proven results is desired.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Knowledge and application of OSHA, ANSI, ASTM, and/or NIOSH standards

  • Excellent communication skills (oral & written)

  • Excellent project management, facilitation, program development and presentation skills

  • Advanced computer skills using MS Office products (including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint)

  • Excellent time management skills including an ability to manage numerous projects while meeting short deadlines

  • Excellent operational knowledge of Transmission

  • Proven ability to provide customer value when working on cross functional teams.

Job Responsibilities

  • Monitor the regulatory process to identify any new or revised regulatory action affecting the electric utility industry. Partner with the Safety & Health staff to implement requirements of new regulations or revisions to existing regulations.

  • Represent Georgia Power and/or Southern Company on internal committees and external industry groups.

  • Serve as subject matter expert in designated areas and assist in performing audits for Internal Auditing.

  • Represent Georgia Power on various Southern Company Safety & Health committees.

  • Work closely with other safety subject matter experts throughout the Southern Company in an effort to develop and maintain consistency on regulatory rule interpretations, bulletins, guidelines, policies, and procedures that impact employee safety and compliance.

  • Be a mentor to junior Safety & Health staff and assist in their development into safety & health professionals.

  • Maintain guidelines and policies as assigned.

  • Provide oversight of Georgia Power's bulletins, guidelines, policies, and procedures that impact employee safety and compliance.

  • Review specifications for Georgia Power Transmission safety related equipment.

  • Development of Safety Alerts, presentations and training materials as needed.

  • Provide technical guidance ensuring consistent application of safety policies and procedures.
