Instrument & Electrical Technican I


Basic Function:

Implements and maintains electrical power circuits and equipment, control and automation systems, electronic and pneumatic equipment used in gas storage, pipeline, compressor station, plant operations and measurement facilities.

Representative Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Installs, inspects, maintains, operates, troubleshoots, repairs, calibrates, and adjusts various pneumatic, hydraulic, electric, electronic.

  • Installs, programs, troubleshoots, repairs various Programmable Logic (PLC) controls

  • Installs, programs, troubleshoots, repairs various SCADA equipment.

  • Perform preventative maintenance checks on compressors, drivers, and auxiliary equipment

  • Performs Inspection and Maintenance (I & M) checks on all control systems

  • Maintain electrical switch gear and power distribution

  • Install, analyze and repair security/intrusion systems

  • Respond to emergency and operational needs whenever necessary

  • Identify and report safety and environmental concerns

  • Completes appropriate documentation and paperwork

Education and Experience:


  • Intermediate computer skills (knowledge of MS Office, operating systems, company software)

  • Associates degree in a technical field, or equivalent experience

  • Five years work experience in instrumentation, electronics and control systems

  • Working experience with electronic equipment, high pressure gas, processing equipment and reciprocating engines and compressors

  • Experience preparing drawings of electrical circuits

  • Working knowledge of National Electric Code

  • Experience reading and interpreting electrical and mechanical blueprints and diagrams

  • Process controls and understanding of gas processing fundamentals

  • Knowledge and experience in safe handling practices of flammable gases, liquids and high pressure systems

  • Experience applying and interpreting results from common electrical measurement instruments (voltmeter, ammeter, ohmmeter, calibration instruments, etc.


  • Equivalent academic education and experience



  • Valid driver’s license and safe driver’s record.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

  • Lift and carry medium to heavy weight items.

  • Reach overhead for items, stoop, bend, and twist while working.

  • Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 50 pounds of force frequently.

  • Other physical activities include crouching, talking, hearing, and performing repetitive motions.

  • Visual acuity requirements include color, depth perception and field of vision necessary to operate a computer.

  • The person in this position is required to work for extended periods of time in varied weather conditions. May be required to work periodically away from assigned location.
