Business Development Region Manager
The Business Development Region Manager [Midwest & West Region] is responsible for regional leadership of Southern Power Company’s wholesale marketing, strategic project development, and customer care activities in markets in the Midwest and West regions of the US. The Midwest Region Manager will be responsible for covering MISO. The West Region Manager will be responsible for covering CAISO/WECC. These responsibilities include but are not limited to customer relationship building, prospecting, identification and prioritization of profitable business opportunities, management of competing priorities, leadership of bid proposal processes, and leadership of contract negotiations related to specific business opportunities. Additional responsibilities may include origination, support, and/or leadership of renewable acquisition efforts in target markets. The position provides direction for a small team of Business Development Managers and Business Development Associates assigned to the region. The position directly manages activities and initiatives in support of Southern Power’s business and is accountable for growth and customer care within the region.
Note: Two positions will be filled from this posting. One will be responsible for the Midwest Region. The other will be responsible for the West Region. Both positions can be located in either of Southern Power's offices in Atlanta, GA or Birmingham, AL.
Major Job Responsibilities Include:
Lead and execute Business Development activities (new business origination and customer care) across the Midwest
Develop and execute wholesale Power Purchase Agreements to support new generation construction and remarketing
Provide direct management and supervision of a small team of Business Development Managers and Business Development Associates
Execute and provide leadership for Business Development activities related to wholesale customer opportunity development, customer management, and customer assessments in the western U.S. competitive markets
Provide support for activities related to potential generation asset and portfolio acquisitions
Develop and execute wholesale Purchase and Sale Agreements to support generation acquisition
Provide a high level of customer care to existing customers within the region

Bachelor’s degree required, field preferred – i.e. Business, Finance, Engineering,
Masters’ degree preferred
Minimum 5 years’ experience working with customers to develop and execute wholesale Power Purchase Agreements to support new generation construction and remarketing
Minimum 5 years’ experience of electric industry related structuring alternatives and operation
Experience in business case valuation for wholesale power projects required
Previous direct supervisory and performance management experience required
Direct experience originating and structuring long-term contracts in wholesale power markets (e.g. MISO, ERCOT, SPP, CAISO) strongly preferred
Experience in generation asset acquisition transactions and execution of Purchase and Sale Agreements strongly preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to develop and implement business development strategies as well as work through others
