Southern Company Sr. Regulatory Analyst in Atlanta, Georgia

Responsibilities:

The position may be filled at either the Regulatory Analyst, I (Grade H), Regulatory Analyst, II (Grade I) or Sr. Regulatory Analyst (Grade J) level. Individuals who demonstrate advanced skills in terms of work experience and education may be eligible for the advanced grade.

Job Summary:

The purpose of this position is to independently perform complex financial analyses to meet the information needs and requirements of internal and external customers and stakeholders. The incumbent in this position will perform a lead role in the preparation of routine regulatory filings and in the participation in complex regulatory proceedings and rate cases.

Functional Expertise:

  • Performs complex financial analyses independently with minimal assistance from managers

  • Provides accounting and financial information and support for major, non-traditional regulatory recovery mechanisms

  • Performs complex rate of return and other regulatory driven calculations

Business Acumen:

  • Analyzes and interprets accounting and financial regulatory issues

  • Provides rate case support through preparation of minimum filing requirements, exhibits and review of company witness testimony

  • Prepares responses for data requests and other filings independently for state regulatory commissions

Engagement:

  • Collaborates with other areas of the company including accounting, treasury and operations in analyzing and resolving regulatory issues

  • Communicates with accounting staff of regulatory commissions to resolve regulatory matters

  • Demonstrates strong team and relationship building skills

Driving Results:

  • Establishes goals and objectives for self-emphasizing efficiency and optimization of technology

  • Develops action plans to achieve goals and objectives

  • Acts in manner that influences other department personnel to set high standards and achieve desired results

Qualifications:

Education, Certifications/Licenses:

Required: B.A./B.S. in Accounting or Finance

Related Work Experience:

Required: 5-7 years accounting or financial analysis; 2-3 years in regulatory accounting or finance

Preferred: 3+ years in regulatory accounting or finance; experience in supporting rate proceedings

Applicant may possess a combination of equivalent education and work experience.

Specific Skills & Knowledge:

Required: MS Excel, MS Word, MS Powerpoint; ERP software application experience
