Job Summary

The Business Development Specialist – Architect, Engineer (A&E) and Developer Markets is responsible for maximizing sales of all regulated energy usage and unregulated products, programs, and services designed by key A&E firms and Developers working in targeted Commercial & Industrial (small, medium & large business) and Residential markets / segments. This position leverages primary and secondary research to identify major firms and developers doing business in high opportunity segments within the state of Georgia. This position is responsible for developing relationships with these influential and impactful firms and developers, and leverages those relationships to increase energy usage sales and unregulated sales growth. This position takes a leadership role in trade associations and committees, engages in policy development and interpretation, codes and standards development, and represents the company in external engagements.

Job Requirements

  • Education:Four-year degree desired; engineering or business degree preferred. PE desired. Certified Energy Manager® (CEM®) preferred

  • 5 years of experience in sales / marketing preferred with a proven track record of success.

  • Experience working with architect and engineering firms and developers in the commercial & industrial (small, medium & large business) and residential markets is a preferred

  • A strong understanding of utility operations, financial indicators, marketing regulatory and legislative issues is a plus

  • Knowledge of utility rates, rules, regulations and territorial law is a plus

  • Ability to successfully produce results within a team environment as well as through internal and external networks is critical

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage others, build relationships, influence others, build coalitions, and lead cross functional teams to deliver customer-focused solutions

  • Excellent communication skills, oral and written, combined with the ability to interface with A&E firms and Developers at all levels and internal and external partners on issues impacting the customer and the business (including company products and programs, and policy development, energy usage sales, energy efficiency programs, pricing and rates, renewables, electric power operations, power quality issues)

  • Strong working knowledge of equipment and applications in customer facilities that impact energy usage and unregulated sales opportunities

  • Understanding of finance and economics with the ability to relate marketing actions to company and customer financial impact and decision making

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the company’s strategic marketing activities for the A&E firm and Developer channels, including the coordination of company-wide efforts to enhance customer loyalty and increase sales of all products, programs, and services

  • Responsible for achieving energy usage and unregulated product, program, and services / sales goals associated with the A&E firm and Developer channels.Work with unregulated business units to identify and develop project leads that meet customer needs and increase loyalty and revenue

  • Develop effective working relationships with contacts at targeted A&E firms and Developers to identify and secure further sales and business development opportunities

  • Manage strategic approach with industry ally associations and seek leadership positions in those associations or trade groups.Network with peers at other utilities to learn and share best practices for growing sales in these channels.Monitor and influence codes and standards which may impact the company.

  • Build and manage cross-functional project teams to solve general segment needs or specific customer issues that will lead to added energy sales, unregulated sales and improved customer loyalty

  • Provide direct support of statewide sales force leveraging A&E firm and Developer relationships and provide direct sales support with customers

  • Work with appropriate segment manager, market intelligence and appropriate product managers to share customer intelligence, meaningful industry insights (goals, mandates, leadership or policy changes, etc.), and potential bundling opportunities in order to assist with creating the company’s strategic plan in the A&E firm and Developer channels
