Southern Company Analyst, Lead DBA in Atlanta, Georgia
The purpose of this position is leading the performance, availability, recovery and security of database architecture that supports business solutions and technologies. This position ensures that the enterprise database environments meet the business objectives and service level descriptions through appropriate design, configuration, integration and installation of database management system applications.
This position is based in Atlanta, GA .
Job Responsibilities & Accountabilities by Competency
Functional Expertise :
Identifies resolution for complex database problems that realize customer service level objectives; engages appropriate resources to achieve timely resolution.
Demonstrates extensive knowledge of business applications, software tools, programming languages, tools, and scripts that effectively support the business areas.
Advises and provides initial project estimates (cost / effort) for inclusion in annual budget cycle. Provides revised cost / effort estimates for projects as they are initiated.
Serves as lead technical consultant for complex business applications by managing workload, incident situations, and establishing priorities. Process owner of application components within area of functional expertise
Identifies inadequate or inefficient systems: recommends alternatives that reduce cost or increase operational efficiencies.
Anticipates and identifies obstacles / issues that put project timelines at risk: develops tools and implements solutions to mitigate project risk which may be applied on an enterprise basis.
Develops work plans with milestones identified to track and report progress
Evaluates and influences the selection of new tools and technology by staying current on database trends and emerging database technologies, in order to provide recommendations and direction on business applications for the enterprise.
Coaches and guides the tasks and deliverables of other team members
Collaborates with other team members (application analysts / architects) to resolve complex business problems.
Develops and maintain client / vendor relationships.
Responsible for driving results, including setting expectations, prioritizing work, evaluating results and taking corrective action as needed (project, personnel, and leadership)
Ensure internal controls are achieved in compliance with policies and standards. Understand, execute and improve upon all components of the methodologies utilized.
Monitor the construction of project deliverables as technical lead for projects or other assignments.
- BA/BS Or Equivalent academic education and experience
- MS/MBA Or Equivalent academic education and experience
Related Work Experience:
8+ years designing, coding, testing and implementing database software in at least two IT disciplines utilized within the organization
Ability to deliver results in cross functional multiple location team environment
Understanding system architecture (application/database/network) and appropriate development methodologies
Demonstrated ability to influence and foster collaborative relationships
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent work assignments
Specific Skills & Knowledge:
Advanced proficiency of MS Office tools
Significant Oracle or SQL Server database administration experience in current versions
Significant knowledge of database scripting techniques
Significant experience in database performance tuning, including the ability to tune application SQL.
Significant experience in providing information for project charters, technical approaches / proof of concept documents, functional / technical designs.
Possesses excellent communication skills and aptitude to work with business process owners and technical users.
High impact individual with the ability to both challenge and advise senior leadership
Exposure to multiple, diverse technologies and processing environments
Exceptional interpersonal skills, including teamwork, facilitation and negotiation
Experience in secondary relational database tool
Experience in business analytic tools, extract transform and load (ETL), and data warehouse concepts
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
Occasional Traveler (5-20%): The incumbent will be required to travel on occasion. Trips may require air travel and/or overnight stay away from home for one or more nights.
The incumbent works in an office environment.
